The motto on the Battalion crest is in Latin: "Condite et Pugnate" - translated, means "Build and Fight!"
The term is often used as a soldier greets an officer passing by, "Build and Fight, sir!" The officer will return the greeting by saying, "Lumberjacks!"
Lumberjacks
The radio callsign for the Battalion headquarters is "Lumberjack" so that the Battalion Commander is Lumberjack 6, the S3 is Lumberjack 3, etc. The term "Lumberjack" comes from the roots of the 20th Engineer Regiment in World War I, when it was established as a Forestry Regiment and its soldiers worked as lumberjacks and woodsmen in the forests of France.
